Analyst (The dark side of textbooks)

Hi guys!!!

Once more I’m Marta and this week my role was to be the analyst from Keep calm & keep organized.

This week we have worked on“The dark side of textbooks”, and it was so funny because when we met at Luis Vives we were thinking on making something different and we thought that our star could go to the exposition day dress up like Darth Vader (Star Wars). We really enjoyed this because we had lot of laughs. The worse part was looking for information, because we spent lot of time doing that and it was too difficult to search the specific information that we wanted to find, but finally we got it.

Because of reason that we spent lot of time looking for information, we saw many documents about textbooks in all countries, and we were impressed about the high differences that Spain has regarding the other countries. And we also learnt to make infographics with a program called “Piktochart”.

I think that every group has to get along with the components of it, and there should also be a good attitude to work, so from my point of view, those are very important things to work in groups well, and what’s better, I think that my group has them. All those things are what we have to conserve as a group to make great jobs and have good marks. Also there is something that we have to improve, for example, there should be a better organization when we meet, but I know that we all have personal problems that hinder us to work all together.

I think that the content of this week’s activity is related to our degree, because we want to be teachers and we want to teach to our students, but we want to teach them with the better way and for that we have to improve, we have to teach not always looking textbooks, because a teacher cannot be limited by them, we have to be free to do what we think is better for out students. We aren’t readers, we are TEACHERS and we have to transmit our knowledge to our students.

Obviously there is a social connection with this content because this affect to our society. Nowadays teachers only transmit what books say and for example in Spain there isn’t too much level in all of the subjects, because teachers just teach what books say. It also affects the families’ economy because they have to pay a lot of money per child, because every year or every two years they have to buy textbooks from all subjects, and that’s a lot of money.

Remember teacher teach to create a good society. And to conclude and as we said in our infographic: “As carpenters do not only use one hammer to build, teachers should not restrict themselves to a textbook”

I hope you like and enjoy it.

 Our best wishes. KC&KO
